What will the apprentice be doing?

• Greeting clients and making them feel comfortable.
• Assisting with consultations by taking notes or preparing tools.
• Washing, conditioning, and towel-drying clients’ hair.
• Applying treatments under supervision.
• Blow-drying or rough-drying hair before styling.
• Keeping the salon clean and tidy (sweeping hair, sanitising tools).
• Restocking products and supplies.
• Ensuring workstations are organised.
• Mixing and preparing colour formulas.
• Passing tools during cutting or styling.
• Helping with extensions or other technical services.
• Offering refreshments.
• Booking appointments and handling reception duties if needed.
• Attending training sessions and practising techniques.
• Observing senior stylists to learn cutting, colouring, and styling skills.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Training Provider: Bromley College of Further and Higher Education.

On programme training:

• Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standard.
• Level 1 and/or 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
• Institute of Apprenticeship Certificate.

End point assessment

• A practical assessment.
• Oral questioning.

The practical assessment and oral questioning will assess the learner’s professionalism, values, behaviours, communication, safe working practices and consultation skills.
